Nestled between the magnificent Boland Mountains, Mountain Ridge is a boutique bulk wine cellar in the beautiful Breedekloof region of South Africa. The makers of exceptional wines, which is enjoyed all over the world. No matter the quantity, Mountain Ridge’s main objective is quality.Founded in 1949 as Romansrivier Winery, and situated on De Liefde Road Wolseley, Mountain Ridge and its 20 grower owners are remaining close to their roots by providing quality wines and an exceptional cellar door experience. The Boland hospitality is echoed in our wedding and events venue which has hosted many celebrations of romance.

Meet the people behind Mountain Ridge
Carel Hugo
Carel joined the Mountain Ridge team in 2019, bringing with him, experience gained from wine making in Australia, Argentina, Chile and Cochagua and more locally, the west coast of South Africa.
This allows Carel to be able to really understand each block of vineyards, where it comes from and what it can become. His winemaking style involves a very close relationship with the team in the vineyard, as he firmly believes that good wine starts there.
Carels' personal wine rack is filled with a range of wines from all over the world dominated by Rhône blends (blends produced from a range of Rhône cultivars, usually dominated by Shiraz), which naturally makes the Shiraz from Mountain Ridge a personal favourite of his.
He is a Bono fan

Johan joined the team in 2020, coming from marketing and trading background; involved in the wine industry since 2008 where his passion for wine marketing developed.
“Johan hung up his shoes as lecturer, business owner and marketer, to devote himself to Mountain Ridge and helping to build the brand to the potential he believes is locked within.
To Johan, a Bordeaux-style blend always stands out above the rest as his favourite wine. He has a high regard and adoration for the Merlot's produced at Mountain Ridge. Though he has a die-hard love for red wines, he is frequently astounded with the immense quality of the white wines, especially Chenin Blanc, that grows from the region.

Johan's days are consumed with driving the business side of Mountain Ridge and Carel spends this time in the vineyards and cellar, Zyda keeps the ship sailing.
Zyda has been in the role of Finance and Admin manager since 2008. An asset to the company, support to the internal team and the go-to person for all our customers.
She is particularly fond of Sauvignon Blanc, because of the delicate fruitiness the varietal delivers, with its terroir expressive diversity. Her love for Sauv is closely followed by Blanc du Noir - which lady doesn't like something pink...
Though she has a love for these varietals, she admits that every vintage at Mountain Ridge offers an opportunity to select a new favourite.
