A range of classic varietal wines made from grapes sourced from individual parcels of the best vineyards in the Breedekloof Valley. Each vineyard is planted to a parcel of terroir selected to express the best individual nuances of each of the varieties in the range. To ensure optimum quality, the grapes are harvested in separate batches and kept apart in the winery, only the best grapes, juice and wine being bottled under the Mountain Ridge label.

Mountain Ridge Sauvignon Blanc  2019

WINE DESCRIPTION
Predominantly cooler climate flavours such as asparagus and ripe figs with undertones of citrus, lemon, honeysuckle and orange blossom. A full round palate with soft tannins and a lingering aftertaste. Well balanced acidity. This unwooded Sauvignon Blanc is an everyday wine with complex flavours. A wine for all occasions, especially enjoyed with salad, pasta, fish and white meat.

AGEING POTENTIAL
Drink now or in the next 2 years.

WINEMAKING
The grapes are picked at various ripeness levels for complexity and a bigger range of flavours.
The juice is left on the grape skins for 12 hours for maximum extraction of flavours and phenols.
Stainless steel tanks are used for the cold fermentation of the juice where after the wine is left on the yeast lees for a few months to enhance the body and extend the shelve life of the wine.

Mountain Ridge Merlot 2017

 WINE DESCRIPTION
A complex and expressive wine with an array of flavours including black berries, dark chocolate, pepper, cigarbox, vanilla and nutmeg. This Merlot has good tannin structure and length of fruit. It is a good “allrounder” and can be enjoyed with various meats, ostrich and venison but it could easily be enjoyed on its own with friends and family.

Drink now or in the next 3 – 5 years.

WINEMAKING
The grapes are picked at full ripeness. It is kept without yeast inoculation for a few days to get more colour extraction from the longer skin contact and enzyme activity. This wine is fermented in traditional open top vats and a combination of punch downs and pump overs are done regularly to cool down the cap (skins) and extract more flavours and tannins.
The juice is fermented on the grape skins in open top tanks and then matured in French oak barrels for 12 months

Mountain Ridge Shiraz 2017

WINE DESCRIPTION
A complex Shiraz with flavours that include black berries, mulberries, pepper, spice, chocolate, nutmeg and smoky undertones.
Good tannin structure to add to a full-bodied mid-palate and lingering aftertaste. This well balanced wine can be enjoyed with various meats, ostrich and venison or an easily be enjoyed on its own.

Mountain Ridge Cabernet Sauvignon 2014

 

WINE DESCRIPTION
Intense deep colour with cassis, red berries and attractive oak spice on the nose. Full-bodied palate with red and black fruit, a hint of meaty, earthy, developed flavours are also detected. Long, dry finish. A full-bodied wine enjoyed with various meats, including roasted lamb, ostrich and venison, but also complements tomato-based pasta.
