Here generations of vineyard farmers have lived among the vines, situated in the valleys, between the rolling hills and on the steep mountain slopes.

Mountain Ridge Wines is an established Cape winery lying in the renowned Breedekloof wine region of South Africa where premium terroir-driven wines have been made for seven decades. Here generations of vineyard farmers have lived among the vines situated in the valleys, between the rolling hills and on the steep mountain slopes. A diversity of soils, aspects and climate pockets allow these vineyards to offer fruit exuding the true character of this unique geographical region.

At the Mountain Ridge Wines winery, the grapes are transformed into a range of wines expressing the age-old harmonious relationship between nature, wine farmer and the skill of the winemaker. The result is a true sense of place, unmistakably Mountain Ridge Wines.

The winery, situated on the R303 between Worcester and Wolseley, is nestled between the Mostertshoek Twins and Elandskloof Mountains, which was the inspiration behind its name.

Originally established as Romansrivier Winery in 1949, the winery’s astounding local and international success in marketing its range of wines bottled under the Mountain Ridge label prompted the decision to rename the winery to Mountain Ridge.

Mountain Ridge offers a selection of easy-drinking, fresh and uncomplicated white and red wines, complemented by a range of evocative and premium oak matured wines.

Wine lovers are invited to experience the fruits of the winemakers’ labour and true Breedekloof hospitality in the Mountain Ridge wine tasting centre.  Within close proximity to popular tourist spots like Ceres, Tulbagh, and Rawsonville, Mountain Ridge should be at the top of your list when planning your next wine tour.

Justin Corrans

CEO & Cellarmaster

Justin hails from the rural Eastern Cape. His grand-father’s tales of growing-up in the winelands of Stellenbosch left a marked impression on Justin, so much so that after school he headed to the town of oaks to study at the University of Stellenbosch.

After completing an Honours degree at the Institute for Wine Biotechnology as well as a few practical stints at various wineries, Justin began his career as assistant winemaker at Stellenbosch Farmers Winery, owners of some of South Africa’s leading wine brands. With the formation of Distell he became winemaker at the famous Bergkelder focusing on making terroir-driven fine wines from the Cape’s most famous vineyards.

The opportunity to travel internationally arose which included harvests in France and the United States. This glimpse into the international wine world led to Justin taking-up a position as consultant for an Australian wine company during which he travelled the wine world sourcing and making wine.

When the opportunity arose to settle in the beautiful Breedekloof wine region at Mountain Ridge Wines, it was the perfect place to start a family along with the potential to make some great wines.

Carel Hugo

Winemaker

Carel plunged into the wine industry right after school, working at Darling Cellars at the West Coast. Carel always wanted to be a winemaker and after two years in the cellar he started his studies at the Cape Technicon and Elsenburg Agricultural College in Stellenbosch. Upon graduating he decided to broaden his horizons, visiting the Australian wine regions of Adelaide Hills, Coonawarra, Barossa Valley, McLarenvale and Clare Valley. He also spent some time in Argentina (Mendoza) and Chile (Maipo, Colchagua, Casablanca).

His professional experience includes winemaking positions at Mooiuitsig in Robertson, Goede Hoop in Stellenbosch and his old haunt, Darling Cellars. He joined Mountain Ridge in July 2019 after becoming familiar with the potential of the region’s vineyards to produce award-winning wines, something he is no stranger to having made a long list of medal-adorned wines at Darling Cellars.
